Energy, environment, sustainable development
About
Currently Project Manager and Country Director (Guatemala) at NRECA International leading and contributing to national electrification plans and strategies, and the implementation of Productive Use of Electricity (PUE) programs tied to electrification interventions. Previously, Energy Planning Specialist at Sustainable Energy for All, supporting countries in the development of Integrated Energy Access Plans, leading capacity building programs and the development of innovative AI-based tools for energy access planning (Open Building Insights Tool). Formerly, Research and Project Management Consultant at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO)-funded programme Climate Compatible Growth working to support developing countries on their clean energy transition path while ensuring local economic development. And prior to that, Postdoctoral Researcher at the Urban Energy Systems Laboratory at Empa Duebendorf.
I earned my PhD in 2021 at the Chair of Building Physics at ETH Zurich where my research focused estimating the electricity demand of rural households to improve energy access planning in developing countries. Prior to this, I obtained a Civil Engineering degree from Universidad del Valle de Guatemala, and a MSc degree in Management and Engineering of Environment and Energy from the ME3 Erasmus+ Program jointly offered by Universidad Politecnica de Madrid (Spain) and Institute Mines-Telecom Nantes (France). In recognition of my academic and professional potential, I was awarded an "Education for Sustainable Energy Development" scholarship by the Global Sustainable Electricity Partnership in 2015.
As part of my master’s program, I joined Tecnalia Research and Innovation (Spain) as a research intern, contributing to technical, financial, environmental, and socio-economic impact assessments for pilot European cities (Nantes, Hamburg, and Helsinki) within the EU Horizon 2020 framework. These projects addressed integrated urban transformation strategies that combined renewable energy integration, energy efficiency in buildings, smart grids, and advanced energy storage technologies - key components for a more sustainable European energy system.

Appointed as Secretary of the Executive Committee of the Organization of Women in Science in the Developing World (OWSD), Guatemalan chapter (2023-2024). Appointed as Young Ambassador for Global Electrification by the Global Sustainable Electricity Partnership. Featured as role model for the 1Million Women in STEM international campaign.
